Abstract
Two types of programmable elements, fuses and antifuses, are
disclosed for
interconnecting the terminals of electronic components mounted
on printed
circuit boards (PCBs), multichip modules (MCMs) or in integrated
circuit
packages (IC packages). Both types of programmable elements
can be
fabricated as part of the regular processes used to fabricate
PCBs, MCMs,
or IC package (pin grid array). For fuses and antifuses, the
material,
geometry and dimensions can be varied to minimize the real estate
and
maximize programming efficiency (reduce programming time). Each
type of
programmable element, fuse or antifuse, can be separately used

Littelfuse, Inc., one of the leading producers of circuit protection
products worldwide, is improving mechanical performance in the
next generation of their fuses with ALGOR's Accupak/VE Mechanical
Event Simulation (MES) software with linear and nonlinear material
models. The fuses shown here protect electrical circuits from
overload on the printed circuit boards of computers. Littelfuse's
first experience with MES was to study the "drawbridging"
phenomenon, a form of component misalignment that can possibly
result from forces acting on a surface-mounted fuse as it is

PCB Fuse-Holders accept 5 x 20 mm fuses. Cap acts as both cover
and extractor when removing fuse from circuit. Slot is provided
in cap to facilitate removal. Fuse holders meet international
